I Giardini del Quirinale , well preserved, are a wonderful "jewel" in the heart of Rome. Their history is closely linked with the evolution of the monumental complex . In the eighteenth century , at a panoramic point on the hill , the garden was enriched by an elegant Coffee House, a building built starting in 1741 by the architect Ferdinando Fuga and is intended as a meeting place and culture.
During the pontificate of Gregory XVI Cappellari (1831-1846) was reorganized on a large scale of trees , especially in the part of the Quattro Fontane , which accentuated the look of the garden in English style . Particularly significant was the creation , in the east wing of the building, of a arboreal maze with an obelisk in the center and the accommodation, in the avenue leading to the Porta Giardini della Manica Lunga , an elegant fountain cup with marble bath and lower circular .
Among the interventions of age Savoy remembers the creation of the Fountain of Caserta , built in front of the Coffee House designed by the sculptor Giulio Monteverde for Umberto I (1878-1900) , which includes a group of sculptures from the park of the Palace of Caserta, with three women sitting on a rock in the middle of a circular pool . |
