It was designed by Marcello Canines in 1953, after visiting the Wax Museum Madame Tussaud's in London and to Grevin in Paris.

The first exhibition, consisting of 38 characters, was shown at public in 1958 in some circles of the Baths of Diocletian.

In 1969-70 the Museum was housed in the Palazzo Colonna Piazza SS.

Apostles.

It is currently ranked third in Europe after London and Paris.
