The Spada Gallery is housed in a building which is located in Piazza Capo di Ferro in Rome.

The palace is also famous for its facade, and the false perspective of Borromini.

The gallery exhibits paintings of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

Most of the exhibits come from the collection of Bernardino Spada (1594-1661), increased by new acquisitions by his grandnephew Cardinal Fabrizio Spada (1643-1717).

Includes paintings (especially of the seventeenth century), sculptures antique, furniture and antique furniture.

It contains works by Guercino, Baciccia, Orazio Gentileschi, Guido Reni.

In the courtyard you visit the famous Perspective Gallery by Borromini.

A minor contribution but is due to the passion for collecting by Virginio Spada (1596-1662), while following the marriage of the heiress Maria Orazio Spada Veralli in 1636, became part of the collection numerous ancient and modern works of considerable importance.

The false perspective of Borromini
Passing through the courtyard of the Palazzo coming from the main entrance, on the left you can see, through a central opening blocked by a gate in walnut, with the gallery perspective that goes beyond the little garden of Seville oranges, the gallery is in its current form after the recent restoration.

The false perspective on the illusion is created that the tunnel is about 35 meters long, while it is 8.82 meters long.

The illusion is due to the fact that the plans converge to a single vanishing point, so, while the ceiling descends from top to bottom, the mosaic floor rooms.

In ancient times, on the back wall was painted a fake plant motif that accentuated the sense of perspective.

Currently on the bottom is a cast of a statue of a warrior from the Roman era.

The gallery was built in just one year, between 1652 and 1653, by Borromini, aided by the Augustinian Father Giovanni Maria da Bitonto.

The Gallery is the result of the interest of the prospect Bernardino Spada and perspective effects: he probably attributed to this gallery the moral significance of deception and illusion of earthly greatness.

Initially, the gallery presented the frescoes by Giovanni Battista Baths, later replaced by a colonnade.

The most important works of the Gallery are:
Andrea del Sarto: Visitation

Jan Brueghel the Elder: Landscape with windmills
