Program in updating.

Johann Joachim Winckelmann (Stendal, December 9, 1717 - Trieste, June 8, 1768) was a librarian, art historian and German archaeologist.
Passionate about literature and Greek art, after studying at the universities of Halle and Jena, Winckelmann went to Rome where he became a superintendent of antiquities (1764) and could devote himself to the study of classical culture.
Considering one of the theoretical and exponent members of Neoclassicism, Winckelmann maintained an art based on the sense of harmony, on a "noble simplicity and quiet greatness": his ideals had vast echoes in the culture of time, especially in the figurative arts, influencing Artists of the likes of Canova, Mengs, David.
