Set in Etruscan country near Cervetri, about 25 kilometres west of Rome, the castle is reached by the Via Aurelia that in this tract still follows the same route of the ancient consular road marked on old maps as "Via Romana". The name Torre in Pietra has been used since the XV century probably because of an isolated tower that rises on a rocky cliff not far away from the castle and which today is known as Torre di Pagliaccetto, but once it must have been known as "Turris in petra" (Stone Tower). The church and the staircase of the castle were designed by Fuga. Ghezzi decorated the castle and the facing church with frescoes that depict the crucifixion of Saint Anthony Abbot. Today the structure of the Casino can hold 200 people inside or outside. The adjoining chapel is consecrated. |
