Immersed in a green woods, the castle seems emerge from dreams of Romanticism, from a description by Victor Hugo, or from the set of a Wagnerian opera. It is surrounded by a terraced garden decorated with fountains, azaleas, camellias, and is perfumed by gardenias.
Around the large central hall on the ground floor there are large fireplaces and Spanish style cuirass and suits of armour. A stone staircase leads to the upper floor where the rooms open onto a long Renaissance style meeting hall. Two large paintings are attributed to Pietro Longhi, one representing the baptism of Jesus and the other the preaching of Saint John. It was the Crescenzi family that built this castle around the year one thousand as a watchtower at the boundary of their feud. Today the castle has a large receptive capacity: it can offer hospitality for up to 400 people. |
