Some three hundred archaeological finds trace the history of glass and glassmaking during antiquity, with a focus on the Roman Empire. The exhibition follows a chronological order that illustrates the art of glassmaking from Hellenistic Greece to the end of the Imperial Roman era, shining the light on the use of glass, on different glassmaking techniques , and above all on how glass was used both in the creation of luxury items as well as for every day objects used by all social classes throughout the Empire. Roman and Hellenistic objects trace the history of glass and glassmaking during antiquity. The display focuses on the art of glassmaking and illustrates the many different uses man had for glass, ancient glassmaking techniques and how glass was used by all social classes, both in the creation of luxury items as well as for useful everyday objects.
