The exhibition on the Borgias family is an important cultural enterprise that goes beyond the historic and biographic purpose of one of the most famous family that had marketed the italian and european vicissitudines of the XVI.

Around the Borgias world nearly a cross-road of the history, came men and vicissitudes that drove Europe towards the Renaissance, from Europe of the cities late-medieval to Europe of the state-nations.

It is not easy to introduce the Borgia’s vicissitudes in an exhibition because talking around the Borgias means not only having the opportunity to live again passion, dramas, enterprise of one of the most important family but also to represent the incredible interlacing of their lifes and actions with a single world for the estraordinary and greatness of the personages.

When in the year 1492 (a date which is one of the central point of the western history: death of the Lorenzo de’ Medici – il Magnifico – and discovery of the America) the Spanish cardinal Rodrigo Borgia bacame pope with the name of Alexander VI the world was living one of the most intense moment of the culture and the uman progress.

The power, the luxury and the research of the glory which gave to the buyers new palaces, churches, monuments, furniture and works of art. Botticelli, Benvenuto Cellini, Michelangelo, Leonardo, Bramante, Pinturicchio, Bellini, Carpaccio, Antonello da Messina, Mantenga, Dürer, Bosch, Tiziano, Raffaello, Ariosto, Bembo, Galilei, Copernico, and many others artis which had interlaced their life with the life of popes, princes, and kings.

The Borgias’ family were no certainly passive among the powerful protagonist and spectator to the extraordinary changes of an epoch and of the world.

In the Borgias exhibition the family is seen in the atmosphere of their epoch: they were creatures of their time, no worst of other but favourites and damned because they had the power and therefore the right, as the Pastor said.

The exhibition held in Palazzo Ruspoli gives the possibility to live again the culture the history and the religious of the Borgias’ epoch on which the origine of Europe came from.
