Share After the exhibition dedicated to the Cubists, the Complesso del Vittoriano displays Cezanne and the artists of the twentieth century, from October 5th 2013 to February 2nd 2014

Paul Cézanne was a French artist and Post-Impressionist painter whose work laid the foundations of the transition from the 19th-century conception of artistic endeavour to a new and radically different world of art in the 20th century. Cézanne can be said to form the bridge between late 19th-century Impressionism and the early 20th century's new line of artistic enquiry, Cubism. Both Matisse and Picasso are said to have remarked that Cézanne "is the father of us all." Cézanne's often repetitive, exploratory brushstrokes are highly characteristic and clearly recognizable. He used planes of colour and small brushstrokes that build up to form complex fields. The paintings convey Cézanne's intense study of his subjects.

The intense and monumental work of Paul Cézanne, its ability to reduce the shape to its own terms, without forgetting the experience that enabled him to discover the brightness of the color, penetrates in Italian art of the twentieth century, both feeding the creativity of artists, is making a remarkable suggestion at widespread.
The need for structuring, which prompted the artist to make a choice between the natural data, its ability to enhance the evidence volume and texture of objects, fusing the various elements in synthetic units, constituted an example to us to many fundamental ways. The everyday symbols elevated to deep, long insistence on the same themes were intended as representative elements of a high morality of artistic, able to trust even in moments of disorientation, meeting the need for a recovery of values.
