L'aerostato Aerophile 5500 è il più grande pallone frenato del mondo. Effettua, esclusivamente, voli vincolati. Si innalza, cioè, da una base fissa restando sempre ancorato al terreno da un cavo d'acciaio porta fino a 30 passeggeri fino ad una quota di 150 metri e li riporta a terra nel giro di quindici minuti.
A differenza delle mongolfiere ad aria calda l'Aerophile 5500 non usa fiamma ed il suo verricello di recupero è mosso da un motore elettrico. E' perciò completamente ecologico e silenzioso.

I voli dell'aerostato avvengono al galoppatoio di Villa Borghese dalle 9,30 del mattino al tramonto, tutti i giorni della settimana fino al 31 di Ottobre 2004.

The Aerophile 5500 is the biggest tethered air balloon in the world.
It only flies fastened, that means it flies from a fixed platform and it is permanently tethered to the ground by means of a stainless steel cable.
It carries up to 30 passengers to 500 feet above the ground, then brings them back down after fifteen minutes.
Differently from hot air balloons, the Aerophile 5500 uses no flame, and its hydro-electric winch is operated by an electric motor, which is noiseless and fully environment-friendly.
