Night at the Museum: Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museums by Night HIGHLIGHTS Evening Openings Every Friday of April (except the 2nd), May, June, July (for the month of July open only on the 2nd and 9th), September and October from 7 pm to 11 pm (last entrance 9.30 pm). An extraordinary opportunity to visit the Vatican Museums after sunset. Visitors will be able to admire important collections, following an itinerary that includes the Upper Galleries of the Vatican Museums (Candelabra, Tapestries and Maps) the Raphael Stanze and the Sistine Chapel. April - Oktober 2010, Die zusätzliche Öffnungszeit am Abend der Vatikanischen Museen Nach der erfolgreichen Abenderöffnung des vergangenen Jahres, werden die Vatikanischen Museen auch dieses Jahr jeden Freitag ab dem Monat April (außer dem 2.), Mai, Juni, Juli (nur erster und zweiter Freitag des Monats), September und Oktober nach Sonnenuntergang von 19.00 - 23.00 Uhr ihre Tore für die Besucher öffnen (letzter Einlass 21.30 Uhr, Ausgang ab 22.30 bis 23.00 Uhr). Die Besucher können das Gregorianisch-Ägyptische Museum, das Museum Pio-Clementino, die Obergalerien, den Achteckigen Hof, die Stanzen des Raffael, die Sammlung Moderner Religiöser Kunst, die Sixtinische Kapelle und die Galerien der Apostolischen Bibliothek besichtigen. Vom 30. April während der Abenderöffnungen wird die Galerie des Hl. Pius V geöffnet. Hier sind Keramikvasen aus dem Mittelalter und der Renaissance und auch die Mikromosaiken, eine typish römish-stämmige Kunst, die am Ende des 18. Jahrhundert äußerst beliebt war. Verrà offerto agli spettatori un ventaglio a 360 gradi di quel repertorio danzato sera dopo sera da questi mirabili interpreti. Orchestra G. Tartini Music “Giuseppe Tartini” Chamber Orchestra The tartini chamber orchestra was founded by M° Antonio Cipriani. Prestigious conductor, musicians and opera singer as Donato Renzetti, Katia Ricciarelli, Maria Dragoni, Luis Bacalov (Academy Awards for “the Postman”) they said about orchestra: “the Tartini Chamber Orchestra is a very important attractive and high quality musical reality in international music overview”. The orchestra it perfomed in many music festival and important opera season and has often cooperated with Mariella Devia, Viktoria Mullova, Ivry Gitlis, Leo Brouwer, Luis Bacalov, Sergej Yusckevick, it also made several important tours in France, Spain,Venezuela, Brasil, U.S.A., China and Thailand. Subsequently he started the orchestra conduction studies, specializing with M° Donato Renzetti; In 1999 he won “Mario Gusella” International Orchestra conduction contest. He perfomed as musician and conductor in several concerts and tours across Europe, America and Asia and won many awards in musical contests. As a conductor he cooperated with Filarmonica Orchestra of the Arena di Verona, “G.Verdi”and “Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano”, G. Lungo il Tevere Roma - Along the Tiber Rome By now come up to its 6th edition, "Lungo il Tevere Roma" (Along the Tiber Rome) is one of the most followed summer events in Rome, where the appreciation of the public has risen up exponentially through the years. Our main purpose, as to the edition of 2010, is informing citizens and tourists about the existence of a place that offers the possibility to enrich their own personal culture in a free way throughout fixed appointments -both cultural and of entertainment- addressed to study in detail themes about the tradition and the future of Rome. In particular we want to underline 4 thematic areas this year: RECEPTION: it's important to make the event open to everyone, with no architectural obstacles for the disabled to make easier the access to wheelchairs, old people, disabled etc.also thanks to the steady and never intrusive assistance of the overseeing team also assigned to the care and the maintenance of the area. CULTURE: It's surely one of the main points of this edition, with the presence of various instructive and brain-widening events, for instance we'd like to underline: expositions, meetings with writers, poets, directors, leading figures in the world of culture and show business, oriented to the presentation and diffusion of literary and cinematographic works and of figurative arts. The Days of Rome: The Age of Conquest The Age of Conquest exhibition is the first of the “The Days of Rome” series and will provide a unique opportunity to reflect on an era of radical changes in the stylistic precepts and aesthetic taste of ancient Rome: an era that was one of the most important times for Rome’s future cultural and artistic identity, and not only in the republican era. Kutlug Ataman. Mesopotamian Dramaturgies Internationally renowned for his intense video-installations featuring multiple screens and suspended between fiction and document, Kutlug Ataman (Istanbul, 1961, lives and works in Istanbul and London) and his art explores the complex nature of personal and collective identity, giving rise to portraits of great intimacy while at the same time also tackling broader social themes. In Mesopotamian Dramaturgies, Ataman’s most ambitious project to date and presented in its entirety for the first time at MAXXI, the theme of the construction of identity invests an entire geographical area, that middle ground between East and West that Turkey represents particularly well. The eight works – films, video installations and photographs – that constitute the cycle reveal the tension, the effort, the contradiction and the results of the meeting of two worlds, from the thrust towards modernity to the persistence of tradition. Realised in what is today one of the most archaic areas of Turkey, the South-East, on the border with Iraq, as is customary with Ataman’s works they give voice to “marginal” figures, those who have remained on the edges of the impetuous development underway elsewhere in the country. SPAZIO / Italian Geographies. A Journey through Contemporary Architecture Interactive video installation with 9 synchronized screens and 4 touch-sensitive lecterns. Geografie italiane is a video installation which works simultaneously as a kind of history laboratory of contemporary architecture. The various developments in Italian architecture during the second half of the twentieth century are interpreted through the introduction of guiding themes which form a narrative backbone for the visual presentation. The installation Geografie italiane is made up of a sequence of “worlds”, which come together to form a kaleidoscopic image of architectural landscapes. Each “world” is created using a variety of iconographic and visual materials including drawings, photographies, film clips and interviews in order to create a specific narrative script freely reworked and assembled by Studio Azzurro to allow the viewer to set a myriad of possible pathways and interpretations within the general narrative framework of the installation. As indicated on the wall, the sequence of “worlds” explores the following themes in this order: cities | engineering | landscape | competitions | heritage | design | landmark | museum | protagonists | media and next. The visitor can experience the various “geographies” using monitors which list the names of leading figures, keywords, aphorisms, and places. Selecting one of these opens an informational box. Gladiatores The displaying concept is inspired by the experimental archaeology and it's mainly educational: original findings are displayed together with modern copies, created by skilled craftsmen in accord to rigorous studies. All of the information about the gladiators’ world has been collected from many different sources (epigraphy, frescoes, mosaics, statues, historical documents). Gino De Dominicis. The Immortal The Gino De Dominicis exhibition represents the first and most exhaustive retrospective devoted to the artist who died prematurely in 1998. Running through the museum spaces from the entrance through to the spectacular Gallery 5, the exhibition investigates the principal thematic and iconographical issues tackled by the artist over the course of his highly original research that is particularly difficult to place within a precise trend or movement. Thanks to the collaboration of the Friends of Gino De Dominicis Association, various museums and foundations, private archives, experts, galleries and collectors, over 130 works are on show and tied to the themes of the immortality of matter and entropy, the overturning of perspective and ubiquity, metamorphosis and evolution, invisibility, anti-naturalism, the suspension of time between remote past and future. The theme of immortality that runs like a fil rouge throughout the artist’s entire poetic, is probed by De Dominicis through the most diverse forms and materials, from installations of objects to experimental video, from photography to painting and sculpture. This theme led the artist to experience the appeal of the infinite universe as revealed by the conquests of space or to rediscover ancient civilisations such as that of Sumeria, preceding the Greek rationality of the western logo. For this reason the exhibition is not structured according to a linear chronological evolution, but rather around the coexistence and co-presence of the works. Spazio Space, which is the common theme of the two souls of MAXXI and the building which hosts it, is also the leitmotiv of the first permanent collection of the two art and architecture museums. In fact, artists have always considered space one of the essential elements of their creative research and practice. Some of them physically work with space and on space with a view to understanding and representing the reality which surrounds them, whereas some others seek a possible truth in the spaces of mind and individual or collective memory. Finally, architects, shape the space as if it were pure matter, or patiently investigate the changes and evolution of its facets: residential or urban, individual or metropolitan, rational or post-Cartesian. None of these meanings can set aside the others. There is continuity between inner and exterior maps. For artists, what exists and can be conceived turns into the space of critical voyage and possibility. Everything merges into the complex change dynamics of the world in which we live. The architects invited to make a site specific creation for MAXXI have compared their own work with the various space concepts represented in the works of the MAXXI Art Collection, which will be replaced over time, alternating one another within the exhibition, so as to allow a richer analysis and and a more in-depth interpretation of this complex theme. A Journey through Contemporary Architecture On the occasion of the MAXXI inauguration, and within the ambit of the exhibition SPACE, the winning entries from the international competition MAXXI 2per100 will also be unveiled. The competition, announced in October 2008 by the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport together with the Ministry for Cultural Activities and Assets, applies Law no° 717 of 1949, known as “the 2% Law”, according to which State administrators and public bodies that order the construction of public buildings shall devote to the realization of works of art no less than 2% of the total expenditure foreseen for the project. The jury selected from among the 11 finalists, the two winning projects by Maurizio Mochetti for the museum atrium and Massimo Grimaldi for the external area. MAXXI from 30/05/2010 to 23/01/2011

MAXXI_HADID The MAXXI Project MAXXI inaugurates the Museum of Architecture’s Archive Centre with an exhibition entirely devoted to the MAXXI project installed in the study room at the end of Gallery 1, with the original materials created by the Anglo-Iraqi architect and her London-based firm. We wish to provide those visiting the building for the first time and experiencing its forms first-hand inside and out with more in-depth and detailed information regarding the design process that led to the birth of MAXXI. Starting out with the large painting in which the designer’s initial ideas took shape, models, pictures, architectural drawings, relief models and an animation provide visitors with a thorough overview of the architectural complex: from conception to the executive design phase and through to construction. It will also be possible to leaf through and view directly the executive drawings of the Museum project. In the study room will be presented to the public the reception and consultation desk for the researchers frequenting the Architecture Archive Centre, an architectural object created by Zaha Hadid, mid-way between architecture and design.
