The secret castle is the title of a project created by the Musee del Polo Lazio, directed by Edith Gabrielli,
Lungotevere Castello, 50 Roma 06/85301758
which makes visible some particular areas of the National Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo. As far as remarkable historical and artistic value is concerned, these areas are usually closed for security reasons: their conformation and the anguish of the dimensions preclude, in fact, the access to the high number of visitors who attend the monument every day. The opening to the public, to be considered an exceptional event, is through guided tours in Italian and English, realized by specialized staff of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism and Tourism.
The secret castle provides an exclusive and fascinating itinerary in the heart of the monument. The visit is like the Passetto di Borgo, the 800 meter walk that connects the Castle to the Vatican Palaces; Historical Prisons; The Oliare, the environments used for food storage; Finally, the yard of Leo X, the local 'The Oven' and the tiny Story of Clement VII, that is the pontifical bath, famous among others for the frescoes of Raffaello Sanzio's shop.
