This room is situated on the Ground Floor of the Museum

Gian Lorenzo Bernini was only twenty-one when he began to work on the statue of Enea and Anchise (1619-20), inspired by the part of the Aeneid which tells the story of the Trojan warrior who escapes with his father Anchise and little son Ascanio. In spite of his young age, the artist turned out to be an excellent sculptor with a remarkable talent. The statue symbolizes the family "pietas", as probably required Cardinal Scipione to recalì his noble bìrth.
Another Bernini sculpture in the room is True discovered by Time (1 645-52), which stood for a long time in the studio of the artist.
Among the other works in this room, there is the painting Minerva dressing herself by Lavinia Fontana (1600). The painting on the vault was painted by Lorenzo Pecheux in 1783 and shows an Assembly of Gods which must vote for the war against Troy.

The theme of fighting origins from the famous roman statue entitled the Borghese Gladiator ,sold to Napoleon in 1807 and now exibited in the Louvre.

DIDASCALIA: The time of truth

Bernini began to carve the statue "The Truth" in 1645, after the death of Pope Urbano VIII Barberini.

lt was a very difficult time to him. He had lost the papal support and had been accused of causing problems to St. Peter’s Church, after the demolition of the church-steeple. The unfinished statue was inherited by the eldest son of his family until 1924, when the statue became part of the Borghese Collection.
