In the middle of the room you can see the Statue of Pauline Borghese, a Neoclassical masterpiece which is the symbol of the Gallery.The statue was carved by Antonio Canova in 1808 and symbolizes Venus reclining. Actually, she is Napoleon Bonaparte’ sister and Prince Camillo Borghese’ s wife.

The same subject was painted by Domenico De Angelis on the vault in 1779: in the middle there is Paride’s Judgement and on either side of the vault, some mythological scenes from Virgil’ s Aeneid The Herm of Bacchus is a valuable marble and bronze sculpture by Luigi Valadier, father of the architect Giuseppe.

Among the reliefs on the walls, decorated with marble panels, one can see two unusual scenes: Love who tames Jupiter’s Eagle, by Pietro Bernini and Aiace in a fit of anger with Camilla, painted by an anonimus painter from Taranto, in 370 a.d. At the side of the hall: the Bust of Pope Clemente XII (1735) and the Sarcophagus of Apollo and The Muses (220 a.d.).
