Da oltre trent'anni in Egitto si ripete ogni sera la magia di "Son et Lumiére" ed in Francia è oramai una tradizione acquisita.L'idea quindi di far rivivere i luoghi d'arte attraverso la suggestione di luci e suoni, fusi nella trama narrativa di uno spettacolo, non è quindi certamente nuova , "Son et Lumière, Suoni e Luci a Villa Borghese " si ispira alla grande tradizione francese che unisce cultura e spettacolo.
Nuova semmai è l'originalità della sua ideazione e l'uso dei mezzi tecnologici .
Lo spunto narrativo parte dalla collezione di fregi e statue che fu venduta al Louvre nel 1807 e si snoda attraverso i secoli facendo parlare alcuni dei personaggi principali quali Scipione, Venanzio , Camillo Borghese e naturalmente Paolina .
Una storia di passioni per il Bello, raccontata con l'ausilio di voci narranti e immagini delle opere proiettate sulla facciata del Museo di cui la Galleria è stata testimone, primo fra tutti il suo fondatore, il cardinale Scipione Borghese, che nel 1605 costruì l'edificio per contenere la sua sterminata collezione d'opere d'arte, ottenute con la forza o l'astuzia .
Lo spettacolo sarà composto da tre linguaggi fusi armonicamente tra di loro:
- la musica, come traccia emotiva dell'intero evento.
- le immagini delle opere antiche, adesso conservate al Louvre, e di alcune opere della Galleria.
- i testi recitati in connessione con le immagini.
La sfida oltre che culturale lo è anche dal punto di vista tecnico.
Non vi sono attori in scena e la facciata della Galleria è lo scenario virtuale utilizzato per la narrazione, un proscenio che è al tempo stesso soggetto della proiezione e supporto visivo.
La trama narrativa
“ Son et Lumière a Villa Borghese ” rimetterà in scena la storia di uno dei musei più importanti al mondo, attraverso proiezioni di immagini evocative sulla facciata del Museo, accompagnate da voci narranti e musiche d'epoca.
Lo spettacolo si sviluppa da un'idea di Alba Costamagna , Direttore del Museo e Galleria Borghese, che ha voluto ricreare l'illusione della facciata della Galleria prima che i marmi che la adornavano, fossero forzatamente venduti nel 1807 da Camillo Borghese a Napoleone.
I fregi, le statue, i rilievi e i busti, oltre 350 pezzi greci e romani , oggi parte della preziosa collezione di antichità classiche del Museo del Louvre, torneranno per il tempo del racconto al loro posto accompagnando la narrazione della storia della Villa.
Questa la trama narrativa:
Un giovane visitatore, durante una visita alla villa, si perde nel parco circostante e ripercorre la storia della collezione della Galleria Borghese in compagnia di due “guide” d'eccezione: Evasio Gozzani , Ministro di Casa di Camillo Borghese e curatore della “nuova” collezione dal 1812 e Paolina , sorella di Napoleone e moglie di Camillo Borghese, le cui forme diverranno, grazie alla maestria di Canova, simbolo eccelso della bellezza. Il giovane incontrerà i personaggi che hanno creato la favolosa storia di questo luogo: Scipione Borghese, Papa Paolo V, Caravaggio, Bernini e Raffaello. 
Accompagnati dalle preziose melodie di Bach, dalle volute mirabili di Monteverdi e Pergolesi, dagli inseguimenti mozzafiato di Purcell, sulla facciata della villa scorreranno secoli di bellezza abbacinante. I gruppi del Bernini si alterneranno alla somma pittura di Caravaggio; la ricostruzione dei fregi antichi che adornavano la facciata lancerà un ponte ideale verso l'armonia delle tele di Tiziano e Raffaello, mentre la villa stessa, complice il respiro largo del parco circostante, abbraccerà lo spettatore delle stellate notti d'estate.
La facciata è quindi utilizzata come un grande schermo su cui sono proiettate le immagini.
QUANDO Lo spettacolo dura circa 50' ed sono previste due repliche, una in italiano ed una in lingua inglese.
L'anteprima ad inviti è prevista per il 27 maggio, il calendario degli spettacoli inizierà a partire dal 2 giugno ogni giovedi, venerdi e sabato. Il primo turno è alle 21.15, il secondo turno inizia alle 22.30.

Son et Lumière, Light and Sounds at Villa Borghese “From the heart of the Borghese Gallery, a story of Passions ..to recreate ancient emotions.” The idea of bringing artistic locations to life through the use of lights and sounds combined with a theatrical event is certainly not a new one. “Son et Lumière at Villa Borghese” in reality was inspired by the French tradition which unites culture with entertainment / performance. What is original, however, is how the event is created, and the use of modern technology. It was Dottoressa Alba Costamagna, director of the Borghese Gallery, who had the original idea for this project, and that idea was to create the illusion of a restored Gallery façade by projecting images of the statues and decorations that adorned the front of the Gallery until they were forcedly sold off in 1807.
The Plot The idea of the show is simple: to create a treasure of artistic masterpieces. Every other ambition was sacrificed or forgotten in front of his insurmountable desire to possess beauty in all its forms. “Diana Cacciatrice” (Diana the Hunter) which had been commissioned by Cardinal Aldobrandandini he had Sundayenichino imprisoned. In 1607 he convinced the Pope to confiscate 107 paintings belonging to Cavalier d'Arpino and hand them over to him. It was the very Cavalier who introduced Scipione to Caravaggio and Bernini, but who unfortunately possessed a collection of art (which included works by Caravaggio) that the Cardinal wanted. This precious treasure was “reluctantly” relinquished in 1807 by Paolina Bonaparte's husband Camillo Borghese to none other than Napoleon Bonaparte, and now is on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris… Only now can we experience the Borghese Gallery in all it's glory.
Son et Lumière at Villa Borghese illustrates the antique history of the Borghese Gallery, its amazing and unique collection of priceless artistic masterpieces, the famous personalities who created the collection, the stunning architecture of the Gallery and the Villa, all this together with a state of the art image projection and lighting production and an innovative audio-theatre production. Put simply, this is an outdoor event which takes place each evening and consists of a virtual reconstruction of the Gallery façade by way of images projected on the façade combined with an audio theatre performance that tells the history of the Gallery through the eyes of its founder, Cardinal Scipione. The performances will be in either English or Italian.
Where The Son et Lumière at Villa Borghese event takes place at the Galleria Borghese located in the centre of Rome in Villa Borghese, to be precise Piazzale del Museo Borghese, 5. You can reach the Gallery from Via Veneto or from Porta Pinciana, and it's just a 10-minute walk from the Villa Borghese car park.

Il s'agit de faire revivre un haut lieu de la culture romaine et universelle à travers un spectacle destiné aux visiteurs italiens et étrangers, proposé parmi les différentes activités de l' Estate Romana . « Son et Lumière à la Villa Borghese » s'inscrit dans la tradition française qui unit culture et spectacle .
Le propos est de raconter l'histoire de la Villa Borghese et des ses protagonistes en partant d'un événement historique clé : la vente, par Camille Borghese, d'un grand nombre de sculptures placées sur les façades de la Villa à la France, en 1807. Le spectacle articule quatre modes expressifs différents – lumière, musiques, voix et images – fondus harmonieusement, mettant en évidence un patrimoine artistique non négligeable et s'appuyant sur des données historiques rigoureuses.

The project sets out to investigate, plan and produce a new multi-media performance in one of Italy's most suggestive settings : Villa Borghese .
This antique villa was once home to the Cardinal Scipione Borghese (1579-1633) whose life was dedicated to collecting art (at any cost) and which now houses one of the world's most prestigious museums: Galleria Borghese.
The building has undergone changes with the passing of time (many original art pieces and external decorations were sold to the Louvre in Paris) and this project will investigate the potential of audio-only theatre performances whilst taking advantage of the stunning backdrop of the villa and a visual “virtual” reconstruction. This reconstruction therefore has two fundamental elements: audio and visual. For the visual element images of the original decorations and frescoes will be projected on the building's facade recreating how it looked at the height of its glory. For the audio element a theatrical performance has been scripted to narrate the Gallery's history and that of Cardinal Scipione.
This script will be adapted into an audio-only production resembling a radio theatre performance and recorded for simultaneous playback with the visuals.
The project has several objectives:
1. To create a theatrical performance using just audio, and combining theatre with narration.
2. To virtually restore the Villa to its former glory through projections
which create the illusion of a “restored” antique Villa and in doing so create a “theatre” for the audio recording recreating a structure that no longer exists in its original form.
3. To create a cultural and historical voyage through which the public will travel discovering traces of our past.
