THE ROMAN DOMUS IN THE CAELIUS HILL

The Roman houses situated in the Caelius Hill area are a magnificent example of an original architetonical solution of tree roman houses dated back to the second century A.D. and they were transformed into a colonnade building with a shop build at the same livel of the street. During the fourtheen century A.D. the building became a patrician house and date back to this period the beautiful well-preserved decorations. The last trasformation is dated from the fourth century A.D. when S.S. John and Paul were martyrized and in this period was created the Confessio a rettangular nich with the first floor raised up and decorated with some Christian frescoes. The mervellous basilica was created in the V century A.D.

HOURS

The monument is open every day, except Tuesday and Wednesday, 10.00 am - 1.00 pm/3.00 pm - 6.00 pm

Admittance to the monument is permitted every thirty minutes.

Guided visits are available on Saturdays and Sundays.
