CANYONING

Another way to go in the mountains, to know it , we could say, deeply...

From summits to valleys digging its way in the ages water flows in thousands streams continuously carving deep winding cracks in the rock. Ravines, gorges, canyons are the result of this lost in time work. Signs of nature, sources of fears and legends, now a way to explore hidden corners and to play with water, rappelling in waterfalls, sliding in toboggans and plunging in pools.

From March to October you can find us at the "Rafting Center Le Marmore", just below the biggest Italian waterfall in the heart of natural and historical beauty of Umbria region.

OTHER SUGGESTIONS
If you are already experienced in rope manoeuvres (climbing, caving ...) we have for you a wide choice of canyons, easy and severe ones. Here are some of the most popular ones in the fantastic scenery of the green Umbria.

FOSSO DEL CASCO (Umbria)
In the Nera Valley, 15 min driving from the rafting station, this canyon lies in a undamaged environment on the ancient way to Spoleto.
An easy starting with small drops and pretty pools is followed by a narrow deep cut in the rock where the boiling waters take a 30 meters jump, the highest one.difficulty: medium

water: wet but not need to swim

longest drop: 30 m

time: 4 hours

approach: 50 min walking.

BADDE E PENTUMAS (Sardegna)

Gruppo: min 4
Periodo: primavera

SU GORROPU (Sardinia)
In the wild nature of inner Sardinia a gigantic cut runs through Supramonte, the harsh, isolated and fascinating plateau inhabited only by shepherds. 13 km long throughout rappels, pools, toboggans, siphons, narrow and deep stretches that suddenly open to the light and in the end a colossal portal made by 600 m high walls. To have the best taste of this atmosphere we'll pass two days in the canyon bivouacking midway. One day more to visit the Badde 'e Pentumas Gorge .

difficulty: medium/high

water: some pools (we use small inflated dinghies)

longest drop: 18 m,

duration: 3 days (2 in the gorge)

VAL SERVIERA (Abruzzo)
La più impegnative della nostra selezione, questa gola nella Maiella. Ambiente severo e di alta montagna, più di 60 calate in doppia, tanta acqua ed un dislivello di più di 1000 m. Veramente sportiva, per gente allenata. 10 ore.

Gruppo: min 4
Periodo: estate

Forra del Casco

Pago Le Fosse

On the opposite side of the valley opens this huge ravine. In a wild and secluded environment this canyon runs between high rocky walls. A primitive and romantic atmosphere makes it the most spectacular in the Nera Valley although we find water only in most rainy times.

difficulty: medium

water: dry

longest drop: 35 m, many over 15

time: 4 hours

approach: 1 h walking

Fosso del Bagno

In a different area of Umbria, near the village of Fabro (Rome-Florence highway) this is a jewel in umbrian canyonig. Natural rocky arches, caves, small and big pools, rapids are the ingredients of the most jocular and funny among our suggestions.

difficulty: easy

water: need to swim

longest drop: 14 m

time: 3 ½ hours

approach: 20 min walking

Forra di Prodo

The abundance of water, the deep rocky environment and the lack of escape ways make this canyon a demanding one besides the most exiting and fascinating. There are not very high drops but chains of small ones and pools in which the most courageous can plunge. Sometimes we have to swim in pools squeezed between high rocky walls or to rappel under the waterfalls. Endurance and self-confidence in water are required.

difficulty: high

water: plunge and swim

longest drop: 18 m

time: 4 ½ hours

approach: 10 min walking
