Plessi at Caracalla. The secret of time: videoart by Fabrizio Plessi and music by Michael Nyman from Tuesday 18 June to Sunday 29 September 2019.
A new sector of the undergrounds of the Baths of Caracalla opens to the public with the exhibition The secret of time, by Fabrizio Plessi, one of the protagonists of video art, with music by Michael Nyman. A complex project that, among other things, sees the return to Caracalla of some works of ancient art originally located in the thermal plant.
The exhibition, curated by Alberto Fiz, is organized by the Special Superintendency of Rome in collaboration with Electa.
Plessi pays homage to the great history of Rome with a new work, arranged along more than 200 meters of the basements of the Baths, hitherto unknown to visitors and opened after a complex work of consolidation and restoration. This is the sector under the exedra of the calidarium, the beating heart of the plant and a unique example of the high technological level reached by the ancient Romans, now finally visible in the new path.
The ovens, the boilers, the warehouses, a large underground artery, the loaned statues, will act as a counterpoint to Plessi in Caracalla. The secret of time: 12 video installations that, both in the structures supporting the screens and in the contents of the videos themselves, will feature on classic themes...
