The concept of this precious early Baroque complex has been attributed to various architects and in particular to Carlo Maderno.
However, through research done into documents from the Borghese Archives, it has now been proven without a doubt that the plans of the raised garden, the semicircular fountain, and the Casino that defines the opposite sides are the work of "Gio van Zants", or Giovanni Vansanzio, the capable Flemish cabinet maker.
In the original project, as brought to light during recent restoration, it is possible to recognise the connections between the main body of the palace, and in particular the large salons of the piano nobile with that of il Giardino dell'Aurora (The Garden of Dawn). At the moment, the rooms of the Casino are able to hold events for not more that 150 people, whereas outside it is possible to accommodate up to 400 guests. |
